The Story Behind the Name Northern Chestnut
Every brand has a story, and we wanted to share the story behind ours.
Many of our customers already know us from our previous name, JJMJ Embroidery. Over the years we’ve had the pleasure of working with local businesses, teams, schools, and organizations in Markdale and across Grey County. As our business continued to grow, we felt it was time to create a brand that better reflects who we are today and where we are going.
That’s how Northern Chestnut was born.
Why “Northern”
The word Northern reflects our home and identity.
We are based in Markdale, Ontario, surrounded by forests, lakes, farms, and small communities. Life in the north is different — it’s about hard work, reliability, and strong local connections.
Our business is built on those same values. We believe in producing quality work, supporting local businesses, and building long-term relationships with our customers.
The name Northern represents where we come from and the pride we take in our community.
Why “Chestnut”
The chestnut tree symbolizes strength, longevity, and growth.
Chestnut trees are known for being strong, resilient, and long-lasting — qualities that we believe should also define the products we create.
Our goal has always been to produce apparel that people are proud to wear and that lasts for years, not just seasons.
The chestnut also reflects our roots and our story, connecting where we came from with where we are today.
